Im just so ing happy. Im being dead honest! said Chelsea manager Emma Hayes after the game.

Those women will go down in history. I will look back in 10 years time and will be like, That group was immense. They are the best team I have ever coached.

That was so amazing for the womens game. Its two teams who respect the crap out of each other and go toe-for-toe. We took the lead, they equalised, we took the lead, they equalised. Finding the winner was so gutsy.

Chelsea can now say they are the best team inEnglandthis year.

Even though Hayes side lifted the Womens Super League trophy last Sunday, ifManchester Cityhad gone on to win the domestic cup double, there would be question marks as to who ruled supreme.

Those questions have now been answered.

Back-to-back league and FA Cup wins have underlined Chelseas dominance. The victory is made even sweeter by the fact that they have halted the resurgence of a Manchester City side who were at full strength and in scintillating form.

I loved the game plan because I thought it was really aggressive but we had to grind, we had to work. I thought we stopped Manchester Citys momentum in the way we pressed but it meant we had to suffer, said Hayes.

To dig it out doesnt surprise me. I said it to them at extra time, I know which team is going to be the winning team.

Its not about one person me making the decisions, but the team as a whole buying into what it takes to win. Its not always pretty.

Its a huge win for Marina (Granovskaia, Chelsea director) and Bruce (Buck, Chelsea chairman) and I want to put that on record for the work theyve done for not just me, but the team over a period of time theyve epitomised everything that Chelseas about.

Sundays FA Cup win in front of 49,094 fans, a record crowd for the competition, was an embodiment of Chelseas collective performance. They are a team of leaders.

Its a big reason why we are so successful, said captain Magdalena Eriksson. There are international players who have so much experience and, for me, it makes my job easier. There are other people who are used to being that kind of leader so were not relying on one or two players we have so many that can step up when needed.

Thatculture has not been created overnight, however. Its been 10 years of Hayes implementing her style of management.

I know when I lie in bed later I will be thinking about that moment of the team in the huddle at extra time, said Hayes. I stepped out of it and I could see Magdalena Eriksson communicating with Jonna Andersson and the two were having a conversation about what we needed to do.

It was completely calm and it was leadership at a level that I have worked so hard to try and build and cultivate in the environment.

Having been on the winning side more often than not, let me tell you, its about human endeavour. We have a group of people that wont be on the losing team. They will find a way.

And they did find a way. As well as this seasons star-studded displays from Sam Kerr and Pernille Harder, its been about Jess Carters rise, Ji So-yuns magic, Guro Reitens technical brilliance, Millie Brights defensive steel and Erin Cuthberts dogged tenacity. TheScotlandinternational grafted in her defensive duties and hit a thunderbolt to put Chelsea 2-1 up. She muscled off Jamaica international Bunny Shaw, who is twice her size, and did backward rolls following her persistence to prevent Chloe Kelly from penetrating the penalty area. She was a deserved player of the match.

Manchester City are a top team but they underestimated us, said Hayes in her post-match press conference. The loss in the League Cup final made us feel like we had a point to prove and we did really well with that.

As well as lifting the League Cup trophy in March, Gareth Taylors side had won 13 games in a row going into this game. Their most recent loss came at the hands of Chelsea, a 1-0 defeat back in February.

City had a season of two halves. They heavily underperformed in the goals they conceded compared with the quality of chances they gave up. This was due to injuries throughout the squad in the first half of the season, hitting their lowest point across a 10-game average near the middle of the campaign. Never has it been so low compared to the past three years. They lost three out of their opening four WSL games and only picked up seven points in their first seven games, slipping to ninth.

But they kicked into gear in the second half of the season and there was a monumental shift.

Throughout Citys league campaign, their attacking threat was never an issue. They continued to score more than their xG and a crucial component of that forward line is England international Lauren Hemp.

Citys top league goalscorer showed up yet again today, cutting inside onto her right foot to find the equaliser.

We had the moments in the game, said former Barcelona captain Vicky Losada, who signed for City last year. Its been a really hard season and its a massive lesson for us. This has to be motivation for us for next year, to be better every year.

Chelsea is a winning team. Theyve shown it before. We knew that so I think they took their chances. Its a different style a more direct team with very experienced players.

Ive said so many times from Christmas onwards, weve been outstanding, said Manchester City captain Alex Greenwood. To go on the run we have, to get to this point, two finals and to get the third place that I think we deserved. Its just a credit to the team, the staff and the whole club. Im very proud of the girls and the way we finished off the season.

For Chelsea, however, its a bittersweet moment for Jonna Andersson, Ji and Drew Spence three players who are leaving at the end of the season when their contracts expire.

The hurt could be seen, especially from the latter two, as tears rolled down their cheeks during their interviews with Chelsea TV before the last day of the WSL season.

The tight-knit family feel of Chelsea is palpable and the trio will leave a big hole.

When everyone thinks of Chelsea, its those players and we really have been a family. So it really is hard to see players leave when they do go because we are so close and we do look after one another, said Bright.

Were a family, we fight, disagree, fall out, added Hayes. All those things happen behind the curtain but there is an unwavering commitment to progress and to push each other to the limits.

It was aparticularly poignant moment for Ji, who gave her shirt to Hayes after the final.

Its difficult to express my feelings fully after my last Chelsea game, the South Korea international said. Its a very special part of me and the past eight years means everything to me. Its a very special club. Its the best team in the world.

Following disappointment in this years Champions League, that will be next on Chelseas list and Hayes wont rest until she wins it. But for now, they can soak in the glory they deserve.
